Summer School Science Communication 2026
Do you want your research to have meaning beyond your academic peers?
Whether you work in the natural sciences, social sciences or humanities, communicating your work to a broader audience can lead to new insights, unexpected collaborations and opportunities to contribute to societal challenges and public debate. It also allows you to explore new ways of thinking about your own research and the role it plays in the world.
During the Summer School in Science Communication, which takes place in Leiden from 6 to 10 July 2026, you will learn how to make your research accessible and relevant to people outside your field. You will gain practical tools to communicate clearly and meaningfully with non-specialist audiences, including citizens, and professionals.
This one-week, English-spoken programme is designed for researchers at all career stages, from PhD candidates to senior researchers, who are new to science communication.
Over the span of one week, you will explore theoretical perspectives on science communication, practice science communication skills and apply your knowledge by creating your own science communication product. Experienced guest speakers will share their insights in the field and best practices, while our team of Science Communication scientists from Leiden University will guide you through this exciting week by offering workshops, assignments and literature.
