FYSICA 2010

FYSICA 2010 took place in Utrecht in the Beatrixgebouw on Friday April 23rd. The Nederlandse Natuurkundige Vereniging (Netherlands Physical Society) and the Belgian Physical Society (BPS) cooperated in the organization of FYSICA 2010.

Master the Universe

In the afternoon we plan to offer limited entry to a sneak preview of the exhibition Master the Universe, about the development of field theory. The exhibition takes place in the Universiteitsmuseum in Utrecht. Visitors of FYSICA will get a 50% discount coupon for the exhibition, which can be used at another date.

Inge Peters (Lecture about Nobel Prize 2009 for the invention of the CCD chip).

Poster Presentation

Although there is no poster contest, young physicists are invited to present a poster on their research. Registration for the poster presentation has been closed. An overview of the posters and the abstracts can be found here. The size of the boards is 1m (width) x 1,5m (height).

Young Scientist Award

Young physicists are invited to the Speakers Contest, sponsored by European Physical Journal. The prize for the best oral contribution, the "Young Scientist Award", consists of 750 EUR and a certificate. For rules, click here. Registration for the speakers contest has been closed.

Prizes at FYSICA 2010

The result of the Young Scientist Award is:

The result of SPIN Bachelor Project Contest is:

1. Bram van den Bos and Mart Jansink (Influencing cryosurgery ice ball shape by introducing a high thermal conductivity agent in a target tissue)
2. Thomas Wasserman (Gravitational Waves from Bubble Collisions during First-Order Phase Transitions)
3. Erik van Beekum (The bathtub vortex)

The result of Best Belgian Master Thesis (in alphabetical order):

* Annick Bay (Influence de l'ultra-structure de la lanterne abdominale des lucioles du genre Photuris sur le rendement externe de leur émission de lumière)
* Nansheng Lin (Dynamics of Vortex Shells in Mesoscopic Superconducting Corbino Disks)
